Matt Carson
Matt Carson had a Mother's Day to remember at Mercer County Waterfront Park.
Carson collected seven hits Sunday to raise his batting average by 44 points and help the Trenton Thunder complete a doubleheader sweep of the New Britain Rock Cats.
A 25-year-old center fielder, Carson went 3-for-4 in the opener as Trenton pulled out a 2-1 victory. He doubled in the third and seventh innings before singling home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
In the nightcap, Carson was a perfect 4-for-4 with two more doubles and his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth. He also singled in the eighth to help the Thunder cruise to a 5-1 win.
Carson had only seven hits in his previous 12 games before his 7-for-8 twinbill that included hits in six consecutive at-bats. He raised his batting average 44 points to .313, which leads the team. He also tops Trenton with five homers, nine doubles and 21 RBIs.
The Thunder (23-10) snapped a season-high six-game losing streak in the opener but still lead the Eastern League's Northern Division by 3 1/2 games over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. |
